Many of my clients tell me that they have a website or they are putting one together but did you know that you really don’t need a website in order to harness the power of the internet to attract new customers to their business?

Okay if you have continued to read on then it strikes me that you are really serious about getting more clients to your business, and really harnessing the power of the internet to your favour. The wonderful way of attracting clients to your business without even having a website is called………….business listings.

Now many of you guys you may have heard of this already and are already using this, i.e. you have an ad in the business pages and even one on the website equivalent site and that is awesome. If you are not then what are you waiting for?

Now what you have to realise is that now in 2010 people are neglecting print media for finding out business information in favour online searches, in fact about 80% of all business searches were done online. So if you are paying hundreds to put your ads into the local business directory you really might want to think about the level of return you are getting on that investment. Okay Abi so we all know the power of the internet and that many people are searching on the internet in order to find business information – tell me something I don’t know.

Well here comes the part that many people have done several times before but have not really given much though in terms to how it will aid their massage therapy business.

The majority of searches online that are looking for a particular service are location specific. What do I mean? For example if you lived in New York and you wanted to find a dentist would you simply type the word “dentist” into the Google search engine (or any other search engine for that matter) and expect to find one you will be able to use right away? I would think not. You would probably type something like dentist New York or the borough in New York you live in, would you not? This is the trick that many massage therapists are missing in fact many businesses in general are currently are missing this they have websites that are named after their brand and then wonder why they don’t have any more clients. If they were really astute then they would have a domain that reflected where they were based as well as what they did.

Now you can take advantage of this in what is currently a little used practice of placing an ad on the business listings on each of the main search engines that people use.

What do I mean?

Well, google Microsoft and Yahoo all have business directory services that are all location based and this will give you and opportunity for your business to rank extremely highly in the search engines in fact you could rank very highly indeed. see the picture below: I typed in the words “massage London” and you can see the results that came up in fact the local businesses on the map listed higher than any website (bar the paid advertising at the top).
